The wildflowers are already in bloom, and spring is here! That means it’s time for some traditional spring cleaning. While you’re at it, don’t neglect these easy-to-forget cleaning tasks in your Toana, Virginia, home.
Windows
When was the last time that your windows got a good cleaning on the inside and the outside? Spring is a great time to do just that. Be sure to use a clean, dry rag to polish the windows after cleaning.
Kitchen Appliances
Your major appliance such as the oven, dishwasher, microwave, and refrigerator should all get the spring cleaning special. Turn on the oven’s clean cycle to burn off all old food particles, clean the inside of the microwave, run the dishwasher with a specialized cleaning solution, and wipe down the shelves inside your refrigerator.
Outdoor HVAC Unit
Your spring cleaning should also include a visual inspection of your outdoor HVAC unit. Often, these units are on the side of the house where homeowners rarely go. Physical damage or debris can create problems for your HVAC that could need professional repair.
Carpet
This is a job for the professionals. For high-traffic areas, it’s ideal to have the carpet cleaned three or four times a year. For bedrooms and lower-traffic areas, once a year will suffice.
Tile Surfaces
Clean bathroom and kitchen tiles with a neutral pH cleaner or a mixture of baking soda and water. Scrub your cleaner or homemade mixture onto the tiles and grout for sparkling-clean surfaces. Tough stains may take extra elbow grease.
Air Filters
Air filters need to be cleaned or replaced at least once a year. Clean air filters improve your home’s indoor air quality, and dirty air filters make it more likely that your home has a higher percentage of VOCs, or volatile organic compounds, in the air.
